Two dilapidated water tanks located in the township of Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), an entity of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), collapsed on Tuesday morning.
Luckily, no casualty has been reported though a portion of the maintenance office of the BSP has been damaged. Thousands of liters of water flushed from both the tanks having capacity of 18,000 liters.
According to reports, the incident took place at around 6 am on Tuesday. One of the two tanks located in sector 4 crashed down; grilling the other located by its side. The maintenance office of the BSP is located in the vicinity but fortunately, the employees escaped. A portion of the building was damaged.
Sources said the serious negligence of the BSP management had come to the fore as the poorly maintained tanks, which were expected to collapse anytime due to damaged structure, were still in operation. The BSP management was supplying portable water from both the tanks to the people staying in sector 3 and 4.
Though BSP management could not be reached for a version on the issue, sources said authorities were working out alternate arrangements to supply water in both the sectors.
