Raipur, September 30
In the Naxal heartland of Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region, denizens living under the shadow of guns demanding a treat from the security forces is something one can have never imagined a decade ago.
But the 2003-batch Indian Police Service officer, Sunderraj P has made it possible. Now posted as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bastar, Sunderraj was the host of villagers living in the terrains tucked away unobtrusively in Abhujmad that rebels once claimed to be their liberated zone.
The officer had a close and long association with the region. He was Superintendent of Police (SP) for 15 years, taking on the Left-Wing Extremists and trusting upon socio-economic development in the pockets where visitors were unwelcomed.
Having established a deep rapport with the villagers, Sunderraj had a dreamlike demand coming from the Abhujmaadia villagers staying in and around Akkabeda where the Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) had set up a camp for the anti-insurgency operations. The officer did not disappoint them.
A tea party was hosted for the villagers in the camp. Sunderraj along with Narayanpur SP Uday Kiran and top officials of the state police, ITBP and DRG were present.
With the opening of camp, the region could avail the basic amenities including health sub-centre. After the tea party, the officers guided the villagers to the health centre for a routine check-up.
