Trinamool Congress (TMC) attack on Congress continues unabated as the former took a dig at party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s promise to provide reservations to women in Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had yesterday said that Congress party would reserve 40 per cent tickets for upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections for women candidates. The announcement has come under TMC criticism.
From its official twitter handle today morning TMC tweeted, “Amid such dire times, @INCIndia is understandably trying to emulate and one can only hope that this is genuine and not tokenism. If they are to be taken seriously, they must give 40% seats to women in States other than UP as well. (2/2)”
“Under the visionary leadership of @MamataOfficial, AITC has shown the way to ensure increased participation of women in politics in this country. We’re the first party to give 40% seats to women in LS elections! (1/2)”.
Priyanka’s move has peeved TMC as it claims to be the custodian of women reservation in politics and has given more than 50 per cent of seats to women in every election held after 2019.
TMC General Secretary Kunal Ghosh tweeted, “Priyanka Gandhi was unaware of Mamata’s move, TMC has given women representation of more than 50 per cent much before. In 2019 and in other elections TMC representation of women was more than 50 per cent.” He advised that in women issues Mamata should be the one whom others should follow.
The continuous attack on Congress besides poaching Susmita Dev to almost break Congress in Goa, TMC is all out against Congress that has been going soft against it. Even in the assembly by-poll in West Bengal, Congress did not field any candidate—a move aimed to mend relations with TMC.
Congress managers seem to be mistaken!
