Two jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast suspected to be detonated by Maoists in the Bulbul forests of Peshrar in Lohardaga district of Jharkhand on Friday.

Both the jawans, identified as Dilip Kumar and Narayan Das, belonged to the 203 battalion of elite COmmando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), a specialised anti-Maoist force raised by the CRPF. Both were shifted to a private hospital in Ranchi around noon.  According to doctors, one of the jawans had received critical wounds on one of his legs. The condition of both the jawans was reported to be critical.

Sources said that the jawan was part of the team that conducted an operation in the Bulbul forests after receiving a vital tip off that CPI (Maoists) regional commander Ravindra Ganjhu’s squad was camping in the area. The rebels had planted the IED to ambush the party.

Jharkhand police spokesperson A V Homkar told reporters that the security forces had also destroyed rebel camps in the forest during their operation, and recovered several belongings such as uniforms and Maoist literature.
