Jagdalpur, January 30
Three jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were martyred in a Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh Sukma district on Tuesday.
Among the martyred, two were from CRPF’s elite CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) that was raised as a specialised force for combating guerilla and jungle warfare. In the incident, 14 CRPF jawans were injured who have been referred to Chhattisgarh capital for better medical care.
Bastar Inspector General of Police (IG) Sundarraj P informed that the security forces on Tuesday set up a camp in highly sensitive Teklagudam village under Jagargunda police station in Sukma district. It was necessary to provide basic amenities to the people by controlling the Maoist violence in the remote areas.
After setting up the camp, a joint party of jawans from the CoBRA, Special Task Force (STF) and District Reserve Guard (DRG) went for a patrolling and search operation in Jonaguda-Aliguda area. The rebels laid an ambush and attacked the party. Three jawans of CoBRA received bullet injuries and died in the line of duty.
The martyrs were identified as Constable Devan C (201 CoBRA), Constable Pawan Kumar (201 CoBRA) and Labhdhar Sinha (150 battalion CRPF).
The security forces gave a befitting reply to the Maoist and retaliated. Sensing the security forces overpowering, the Maoists escaped by taking cover in the forest.
In the year 2021, 23 soldiers were martyred in the police-Maoist encounter in Teklagudam forest.
