UltraTech Cement Limited, an arm of Aditya Birla Group, has increased the capacity of its unit located at Kukurdih in Chhattisgarh’s Balodabazar-Bhatapara district.

“As part of its ongoing capacity expansion programs, the Company has identified an opportunity for debottlenecking at its integrated unit at Kukurdih, Chhattisgarh. The unit’s capacity has increased by 0.6 mtpa (million tonne per annum), i.e. from 2.7 mtpa to 3.3 mtpa,” UltraTech Cement Limited said in a regulatory filing today. Debottlenecking is a process that involves identifying and removing bottlenecks in a system to increase production capacity and efficiency.

The Company’s total cement capacity has reached 156.66 mtpa, including its overseas capacity, it added.

Kukurdih plant was among the two new grey cement manufacturing units that UltraTech Cement commissioned in April this year. The other was a 2.70 mtpa cement grinding unit at Karur in Tamil Nadu.

UltraTech Cement Limited is the cement flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group. A USD 8.4 billion building solutions powerhouse, UltraTech is the largest manufacturer of grey cement and ready mix concrete (RMC) and one of the largest manufacturers of white cement in India. It is the third largest cement producer in the world, excluding China. UltraTech is the only cement company globally (outside of China) to have 100+ MTPA of cement manufacturing capacity in a single country. The Company’s business operations span UAE, Bahrain, Sri Lanka and India.
