One of the accused in the sensational Umesh Pal murder case was killed in an encounter with the security personnel in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj on Monday.
The Special Operations Group of the Uttar Pradesh Police and the district police shot the accused, identified as Arbaz, at the Nehru Park.
Umesh Pal, the prime witness in the 2005 BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case, was shot dead on Friday evening at his residence in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, police said. Raju Pal was murdered months after winning the Allahabad (West) assembly seat in his electoral debut by defeating Former MP Atiq Ahmed’s younger brother Khalid Azim.
The incident rocked the state as this was a major incident in the regime of Yogi Adityanath. The police launched a massive manhunt to nab the accused and even quizzed Atiq’s wife and son.
One of Atif’s sons is absconding and police are keeping a close watch on the movement of the suspect. In the meantime, police could spot Arbaz and grill him.
Sources said Arbaz, the shooter of Umesh Pal, fired at the security forces. In retaliation, he received a bullet injury on his leg. During the gunbattle that followed in the park, security personnel gunned down the criminal.
A couple of policemen were also injured in the action.
