UNICEF handed over 708 Oxygen Concentrators to Chhattisgarh in an apparent move to strengthen state’s preparedness to combat the third wave of COVID.
The consignment was handed over to Chhattisgarh’s Health Minister T S Singh Deo today. The Oxygen Concentrators were procured by UNICEF’s Global Supply Division with the contribution from the Government of Canada and transported by UPS.
Singh Deo said that UNICEF had been an invaluable partner of the government in its fight against COVID19. “We appreciate UNICEF technical expertise, the contribution of essential supplies and efforts to promote COVID appropriate behaviors and vaccination through campaigns like Roko Au Toko,” he added.
On behalf of the people of Chhattisgarh, Singh Deo thanked UNICEF, the government and the people of Canada for the generous contribution and UPS for transporting much needed Oxygen Concentrators. “This support comes at a time of great need,” Singh Deo added.
In the second tranche of supplies, UNICEF would soon provide to government 440 additional oxygen concentrators and 3.5 lakh re-usable face shields for all mitanins and anganwadi workers in the state. Earlier, UNICEF had provided RTPCR machines, ventilators, and high-flow nasal cannulas to the government, besides helping to set up and augment COVID hospitals in Raipur and other districts.
Job Zachariah, Chief of UNICEF Chhattisgarh said, “UNICEF stands with the government of Chhattisgarh in its preparedness to contain the spread of COVID. UNICEF will continue to provide its technical support and augment life-saving medical equipment and supplies.”
Sridhar Ryanvanki, Health Specialist, Seshagiri Madhusudan, Education Specialist and Abhishek Singh, C4D Specialist from UNICEF Office in Chhattisgarh were present on the occasion.
