Union Steel Minister lays foundation stone for coke oven plant at KIOCL

Union Minister of Steel Ram Chandra Prasad Singh today laid the foundation stone for Coke Oven Plant at KIOCL Limited (formerly known as Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Limited).

The proposed project is for Setting up of 2.0 LTPA Ductile Iron Spun Pipe Plant under forward and 1.80 LTPA Coke Oven Plant under backward integration projects at Blast Furnace Unit at a Capex of Rs 836.90 crore and would take 24 months to complete from the date of placement of order on the Main technological package supplier.

Singh said in a tweet that he had directed the project team to ensure timely completion and commercialisation of the Unit.

T Saminathan, CMD, KIOCL stated that with the suitable patronage and support of Steel Ministry, the Mini Ratna CPSU is all poised to get back its erstwhile shine and glory by demonstrating its core competency in Mining and Pelletization industry in the Country.

A flagship company under the Ministry of Steel, KIOCL was formed on 2 April 1976 for mining and beneficiation of low-grade iron ore at Kudremukh in Karnataka. KIOCL has been a pioneer with over four decades of experience in operating Iron Ore Mining, Beneficiation and Iron–Oxide Pelletisation in the Country. 

The company is having facilities to operate 3.5 MTPA Iron-oxide Pellet Plant, Blast Furnace Unit to manufacture 2.16 lakh tonnes per annum Pig iron at Mangaluru in Karnataka.

T Srinivas, Joint Secretary, officials from Ministry of Steel, S K Gorai, Director (Finance), K V Bhaskara Reddy, Director (Production and Projects) and senior officials of KIOCL were present on the occasion.
