A first of its kind CNC Plasma Cutting Machine was inaugurated at Structural and Fabrication Shop of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant by Ravi Ranjan, CGM (Shops, Design and Roll Shop) on November 17, 2022.
Present on the occasion were K K Pandey, GM In-charge (Roll shop), D K Nayak, GM, (Shops(RSM)), Shekhar Narayan, GM In-charge (Design, Mechanical Shop & Foundry), S C Sabat, GM Shops(Structural and Fabrication), other Senior Officers and employees of the shops and customer departments.
The Gantry design CNC profile cutting machine comprises a Plasma cutting station and one Oxy Propane flame cutting station. The machine will be used to cut stainless steel and other nonferrous plates to any profile or shape.
Compressed air/nitrogen/oxygen will be used in the machine as plasma gas and shield gas. Cutting by plasma is considerably faster than Oxy propane flame cutting in addition to high accuracy and smooth finishing. The installation of this machine, will enhanc the material cutting and fabrication capacity of the shop which will now be able to meet the increasing requirement of the plant and other units of SAIL.
