Vedanta BALCO arrays Artificial Intelligence to bolster power plant efficiency

Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), India’s iconic aluminium producer and a subsidiary of Vedanta Aluminium, has deployed Artificial Intelligence-based ‘Pulse Data’ to bolster efficiency and reliability of its power plant.

The intelligent Power Plant Boiler Reliability System leverages machine learning, advanced pattern recognition, etc. to provide predictive analytics on boiler availability, which helps the company’s power team proactively work towards ensuring plant availability. With integration of such smart automations into its plant operations, BALCO also strives to reduce direct manual intervention and, as a result, improve workforce safety at site.

Speaking about BALCO’s approach to increase technological interventions, Abhijit Pati, CEO and Director, BALCO, said, “BALCO has been one of the early adopters of smart technologies in its operational set-up, amongst manufacturing companies. Our technological interventions serve to bolster the culture of safety, productivity, efficiency, and excellence that we strive to foster across the organization. These endeavours are helping us create a future-ready organization that caters to the aluminium needs of India’s industries and helps build a self-reliant nation.” 

Examples of other digital & technology interventions at BALCO include safety, sales tracking, security and liquid metal transportation.

Testimony to its technology-first approach to manufacturing excellence, BALCO has received numerous coveted awards, including the prestigious ‘Manufacturing Today – Reinventing the Future’ Award. BALCO was also a proud recipient of Special Jury Award in the Technology category at the same event. BALCO has also been declared ‘Platinum Winner’ at the 5th CII National Safety Practices Competition for its ‘Suraksha Sankalp Kutumbh’ project on safety digitalization.
