The 1994-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, Vikas Sheel will be the 13th Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh.
The state government on Thursday issued the order to this effect. He will succeed Amitabh Jain who will retire on September 30.
The IAS officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre, Vikas Sheel was serving as the Executive Director (India) at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Manila and was recalled to India in September 2025. On September 16, the Chhattisgarh government cleared his appointment as the Chief Secretary of the state.
A native of Uttar Pradesh, he holds a B.E. in Electrical Engineering from BITS Pilani. He served as the Executive Director in the Economic Affairs department. Born on June 10, 1969, Vikas Sheel has demonstrated his expertise and leadership in various administrative roles throughout his career.
Known to have played a vital role in implementing Chhattisgarh’s nationally popular public distribution system (PDS) model, Vikas Sheel has served as district collector at many important places including Raipur that houses Chhattisgarh’s capital.
