Vishnu Deo Sai on Wednesday took oath as the new Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh at an impressive function held at the Science College ground in Raipur.
Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan administered the oath of office and secrecy to Vishnu Deo Sai as the fourth Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. The two Deputy Chief Ministers Arun Sao and Vijay Sharma also took oath at the function that was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President JP Nadda.
Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, Ramdas Atalwale, former Chief Ministers Raman Singh and Bhupesh Baghel, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Assam Chief Minister Hemanta Biswa Sharma, former Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh T S Singh Deo, representatives from the Sant community and a large number of people participated in the event.
Born to Ram Prasad Sai and Jashmani Devi on February 21, 1964, Vishnu Deo Sai was on Sunday elected as the leader of BJP Legislature Party. He was born to a farmer’s family in Bagia village of Jashpur district. He did his higher secondary schooling in Loyola Higher Secondary School at Kunkuri, Jashpur.
Sai served as State President of Bharatiya Janata Party for Chhattisgarh from 2020 until 2022. He was Union Minister of State for Steel, Labour & Employment in the First Modi ministry. Sai’s political career started in village Bagia.
A tribal face of BJP, Sai is farmer by profession and hails from Bagiya village adjacent to Kansabel in Kunkuri area of Chhattisgarh. He started his political career as Panch (village representative) from village Bagiya in 1989, was elected unopposed as Sarpanch in 1990. After being elected MLA from Tapkara, he remained a member of Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly from 1990 to 1998. In 1999, he was elected MP from Raigarh Lok Sabha constituency for the 13th Lok Sabha.
BJP made him the State President of the party in 2006. In the elections held for the 15th Lok Sabha in 2009, he again became MP from Raigarh Lok Sabha constituency. In 2014, he retained the seat and was inducted in the Narendra Modi cabinet. He held the post from 27 May 2014 to 2019.
