Former Union Minister and BJP Legislator from Kunkuri Vishnu Deo Sai will be the next Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh.
The decision, which the BJP observers have not yet officially announced, came after the meeting of legislative party meeting held here on Sunday. Sai, the former union minister of state for steel, mines, labour and employment, has won the assembly election from Kunkuri from Jashpur district by a margin of over 25,000 votes.
The BJP legislature party approved the name of Sai after a meeting held under the supervision of the party observers. Sai has been party’s state unit head. Union Home Minister and BJP’s poll strategist Amit Shah has promised the people of Kunkuri to elect Sai and the leadership will do its job to “make him a big man”.
A week after registering resounding victory in the Chhattisgarh assembly election, BJP on Sunday elected its legislature party leader. The party has bagged 54 seats, trounced the Congress and confined it to 35 seats.
A tribal face of BJP, Sai is farmer by professional and hails from Bagiya village adjacent to Kansabel in Kunkuri area of Chhattisgarh. He started his political career as Panch (village representative) from village Bagiya in 1989, was elected unopposed as Sarpanch in 1990. After being elected MLA from Tapkara, he remained a member of Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly from 1990 to 1998. In 1999, he was elected MP from Raigarh Lok Sabha constituency for the 13th Lok Sabha.
BJP made him the State President of the party in 2006. In the elections held for the 15th Lok Sabha in 2009, he again became MP from Raigarh Lok Sabha constituency. In 2014, he retained the seat and was inducted in the Narendra Modi cabinet. He held the post from 27 May 2014 to 2019.
The 59-year-old leader will be Chhattisgarh’s fourth Chief Minister.
