White tigers find safe haven in SAIL-Bhilai’s Maitri Bagh

The Maitri Bagh Management, Horticulture Section of the Town Services Department of SAIL- Bhilai Steel Plant informed that a month and a half ago, the White Tigeress ‘Raksha’ has given birth to three cubs.

Their father is white Tiger ‘Sultan’. It is noteworthy that a year ago also, tigress ‘Roma’ had given birth to a tiger cub, fathered by Sultan.

As per the veterinary medical procedures, the newly born cubs are kept in dark room along with the mother, under the special care of veterinary medical experts for supervision of breastfeeding and other vital health parameters.

The new-born white tiger cubs of Maitri Bagh Zoo have also been kept under the medical supervision and are being administered with special vitamin-rich health supplements to ensure their adequate nourishment and healthy growth. The cubs will be made available for public view only after the completion of the four-month care period.

In the year 1997, a pair of white tigers was brought to Maitri Bagh Zoo from Nandan Kanan Zoo, Bhubaneswar. Due to favorable environment and better upkeep of the animals, the progeny of white tigers continued to flourish at Maitri Bagh Zoo and as a result there has been a great demand of Maitri Bagh tigers around the country .

The Maitri Bagh management has bred over 12 white tigers in the past, which has also been exchanged with more than 05 Zoos of the country as per the rules laid down by the Central Zoo Authority. Currently, with the addition of 3 new-born white tiger cubs, the total number of tigers in Maitri Bagh Zoo has increased to 09.
