Wife and brother of abducted police official Murali Tati have urged Maoists to release him as his “mental” condition was not stable.

Assistant Sub-inspector of Chhattisgarh Police, Murali Tati was abducted from his village in Bijapur district on Wednesday. According to an eyewitness, three to four jan militia members stuck at the house of Tati in Palnar and took him away at gunpoint. The officer had come to the village on leave.

Tati is a resident of Palnar village. He was transferred to Bastar in 2018 and was posted in Jagdalpur. Earlier, he was working in Bijapur. On Wednesday, he had gone to meet his mother and then proceeded to attend the local fair at his village from where the abduction allegedly happened.

“He was not in uniform but he is known in the area as a local. Palnar is a Naxal-affected village and many villagers are working for the outlawed outfit,” SP Bijapur said on being asked how Tati was identified.

Even as a day had passed, there was no trace of the police official. The Maoists had not yet officially claimed that he was in their custody. The senior police official said a massive hunt had been launched in the area to trace the missing police assistant sub inspector.

Meanwhile, the wife of abducted official Mainu and brother Lalit had reached Palnar and appealed to Maoists. Lalit said Murali’s mental condition was not good and he should be immediately released. The duo appealed to the Maoists through the media as a few scribes had played an important role in the release of CRPF jawan.

Earlier this month, Maoists had released CRPF’s Rakeshwar Manhas five days after his abduction during an encounter. The jawan was handed over to the scribes.
