Chief Justice of India (CJI) N V Ramana said he would first look at the papers and documents before listing the petition on Gyanvapi mosque survey case.
An appeal has been filed before the Supreme Court challenging the order of Allahabad High Court that asked a court-appointed commissioner to inspect, conduct survey and videography of the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi. Both Hindus and Muslims have laid claim for right to worship in the premises.
The appeal by Anjuman Intezamia Masajid was mentioned by Senior Counsel Huzefa Ahmadi before Justice Ramana and sought urgent listing. “Please list this milord. The survey is taking place today,” said Ahmadi.
The CJI said that he will examine the petition and documents and list it. “I have no idea about this case. Let me look at the papers. We will list it,” the CJI said.
A suit filed in lower court by Hindu parties had claimed that the mosque houses Hindu deities and they should be allowed to do worship and puja at the site. The lower court had appointed a court commissioner to conduct a survey and videography of the site.
It was challenged before Allahabad High Court that dismissed the appeal on April 21.
