Kolkata, March 10
As the electioneering in West Bengal gears up, petty politics has started to take the centre-stage.
West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee had alleged that she was “attacked” during campaigning in Nandigram. The BJP had pitted her former close aide Suvendu Adhikari against her even as the ruling party had been facing a tough fight from the saffron camp.
Talking to reporters, Mamata looked a little disoriented and also talked of chest pain. The Chief Minister also suffered injury in her leg, which she showed to the media persons during a brief interaction. After the alleged assault, Mamata had cut short her Nandigram visit and left for Kolkata.
Now, many questions remain unrequited related to the incident. First, she had said that there was no security at the place of attack. Then why did the Chief Minister’s security personnel allow her to visit the area? More interestingly, the tour of any Chief Minister had been set well in advance.
Mamata continues to be the Chief Minister of West Bengal till the next legislative assembly is constituted. Was it the negligence of the Bengal police to provide a full proof security to the Chief Minister?
Mamata Banerjee needed to respond to these queries. Or, she should castigate the state police and lodge complaints against the cops with the Election Commission. If unheard, she must stage dharna. If the Bengal Chief Minister failed to do so, the attack in question would remain mysterious.
However, both the BJP and Congress had termed it a drama.
