Kolkata, August 2
The people’s resentment against suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) Partha Chatterjee for duping youths in the name of providing employment spilled out in open as a woman tried to hit him with her chappals.
The middle-aged women had been identified as Shubra Ghorui, from West Bengal’s Amtala area. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested Chatterjee and her close aide Arpita Mukherjee on July 23 in connection with its probe into the multi-crore teacher recruitment scam. The central agency had recovered over Rs 50 crore cash from Arpita’s different flats.
The arrested former TMC leader, who was also minister in Mamata Banerjee cabinet, was on Tuesday taken by the ED officials to the ESI Hospital in Joka for a medical check-up. A tight security arrangement was made in and around the premises.
Shubra made an attempt to throw her chappals at Partha Chatterjee when the latter was being escorted out of a hospital here by the ED officials. However, the footwear flung by the woman missed Chatterjee.
“I have come here to hit (Partha) Chatterjee with my shoes. I cannot think that he has built apartment after apartment, and accumulated so much cash when people are roaming on the roads without any job. After cheating people, he is travelling in AC cars. He must be dragged with a rope I will walk back home barefoot,” she told reporters.
