Even as the poll panel has released the final figure of voting in Chhattisgarh, women have outshined men in exercising their franchise in 50 constituencies out of 90.

Chhattisgarh went to the assembly elections in two phases on November 7 and 17. In Chhattisgarh, female electors are more than male and the impact could be seen in the elections.

According to the final figure released by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the Chhattisgarh assembly elections, 76.31 per cent turned up to participate in the festival of democracy. The polling percentage is marginally less than 2018 polls that recorded a turnout of 76.88 per cent.

“An average 76.31 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the two-phased Chhattisgarh assembly elections 2023,” the poll official said. A turnout of 78 per cent was recorded in the first phase for 20 assembly constituencies in seven districts of naxal-affected Bastar division and four other districts on November 7, while 75.88 per cent turnout registered in the second phase of voting on 70 seats on Friday, he said.

Out of 90 constituencies, highest turnout recorded in Kurud seat at 90.17 per cent while lowest in Bijapur at 48.37 per cent.

In all, 38 assembly constituencies have registered over 80 per cent polling. Besides, in 50 assembly seats, the polling turnout of women voters was more than men. Kawardha tops the lists where 135,385 women voters cast their votes against 134021 men.

The state assembly elections are witnessing a direct contest between the ruling Congress and the BJP. With both the parties announcing a number of schemes for the women including subsidized cooking gas, monthly honorarium etc, both the parties claim women voters turned up in large numbers in its favour. However, the reality will be known only on December 3 when counting of votes will take place.

The electoral fate of 1181 candidates have been sealed in the voting machines.
