Raipur, November 16
The Raipur north assembly constituency will script history as only women polling parties will conduct the elections in the entire segment that goes to the polls on Friday.
The officials claimed that the constituency, which comes in the orbit of Chhattisgarh’s capital city, will be first in the country where entire election responsibility has been bestowed to women. All the 201 polling stations will exclusively feature women officers overseeing tasks ranging from mock polls to the submission of election materials.
Besides the Presiding Officer, the two polling officers are women. In all, 804 women have been directly assigned duties, with an additional 200 have been kept in reserve, the officials said. The Election Observer, Mrs. Vimla R., an IAS officer and her liaison officer are also women. Security responsibilities in most booths are also in the hands of women.
Interestingly, Mrs. Reena Baba Saheb Kangale, an IAS officer, holds the position of Chief Electoral Officer in Chhattisgarh.
“The idea came up at the beginning of the election process to entrust the entire responsibility of one assembly of the district to women,” Collector and District Election Officer Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure said. Everyone appreciated the idea and a plan was formulated, he said, adding that he was elated to see the enthusiasm of the women election parties when they departed for their centres in the morning. “This is an historic event when the entire team is of women and they are confident that they will execute the crucial responsibility effectively,” Bhure said.
Leela Patel, a teacher at Lodhipara Primary School, Arang, was overwhelmed at the administration’s trust in women for the Raipur North Assembly constituency election. She emphasised the motivation to perform well, stating that when given significant responsibility, individuals work diligently to uphold trust. The enthusiasm among women is high, and they are committed to ensuring a smooth voting process tomorrow.
