The former Union Minister of state for Finance, Jayant Sinha on Saturday challenged his father and former Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha on the outcome of assembly elections in West Bengal.
The junior Sinha is a BJP member of Lok Sabha from Hazaribagh, once represented by his father; a former civil servant.
After getting reports of Yashwant Sinha joining TMC, his son, Jayant told media persons at Hazaribagh, “BJP will form the government and Parivartan will take place in West Bengal.” He rejected the claim of his father that Mamta Banerjee would return to power.
Yashwant Sinha, a former IAS officer of Bihar cadre, had quit the civil services when he was joint secretary in the union transport ministry and had joined the Samajwadi Party led by Chandrashekhar. He later joined BJP in Bihar and was leader of opposition in Bihar assembly when Lalu Prasad was Chief Minister. Yashwant had been principal secretary to three Chief Ministers namely Karpoori Thakur, Ramsundar Das and Jagannath Mishra.
He successfully contested the Lok Sabha elections from Hazaribagh and became union finance minister.
Following denial of re-nomination to Lok Sabha by Narendra Modi, he announced resignation from BJP and in 2018 he had declared he was retiring from electoral politics too. In the last elections, he had toured all over Bihar during the Corona period to form an alternative to the BJP, but did not get enough support.
