The second wave of COVID-19 in Odisha had been targeting youths with over 32 per cent mortalities reported from the age group.
Unlike the first wave, the second wave had proved devastating for the patients in the age group of 24-40 years. In the last 21-days, over 32 per cent of the casualties reported due to Covid-19 in Odisha have been in the mentioned age group.
On the contrary, the mortalities in the age group of those above 60 recorded low at around 26 per cent of the total deaths so far in April. In the first wave, people in the age group of 41-60 years suffered maximum casualty due to Corona.
Showing a changing trend, the toll in the first month of the second wave is growing at a rapid pace as compared to the first wave. The only respite is that the number of casualties is less as compared to last year.
The number of fatalities in the age group of 41-60 years is highest this time too. The age group accounts for over 38 per cent of the deaths so far. Though there has been no single death reported in the age group of 0-14 years.
