Ten jawans and the driver of the vehicle in which they were traveling in were killed when the Maoists blew it up in a powerful landmine explosion in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district on Wednesday.
According to police sources, the jawans of the District Reserve Group [DRG) were returning from an operation on Wednesday afternoon when rebels ambushed the vehicle on Aranpur-Palnaar road under Aranpur police station. The jawans were travelling in a private vehicle to dodge the Maoists.
The rebels laid the ambush soon after getting information that security personnel boarded the vehicle. They detonate the powerful landmine when the vehicle reached the spot. The impact of the explosion was so severe that the vehicle tossed several feet high before landing in mangled remain.
Sources said eight jawans and the driver of the vehicle died on the spot. One succumbed to his injuries while on the way to the hospital.
