As part of forthcoming Republic Day Celebration 2021 and to commemorate 50 Years of 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, an online quiz competition is being conducted by Ministry of Defence in coordination with MyGov from January 11 to 22 January 2021.
The quiz competition is meant to create patriotic feeling among the people by making them aware of various facets of the victory achieved and sacrifices made in the 1971 war.
December 16 was a significant day for India five decades ago and its neighbours Bangladesh and Pakistan. In 1971, India won the war against Pakistan that resulted in the birth of Bangladesh (then East Pakistan).
Facing a humiliating defeat, Pakistan lost half its country, its forces in the East, and had to publicly surrender to India. In the largest military surrender after World War II, chief of the Pakistani forces General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, along with 93,000 troops publicly surrendered to the joint forces of Indian Army and Bangladesh’s Mukti Bahini.
The war lasted for just 13 days, and is one of the shortest wars in history. The military confrontation between India and Pakistan occurred from 3 December 1971 to the fall of Dacca (Dhaka) on 16 December 1971.
The participants of the Quiz Competition would get ten cash prizes. Besides First, Second and Third Prize, there would be seven consolation prizes. While the first prize would carry Rs 25,000, second and third would draw Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. The consolation Prizes would carry Rs 5,000 each.
