BSP-SAIL sets new record in hot metal production

Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), an arm of state-run Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), had set records in the hot metal production for the second day in a row.

SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant created several records on January 10, 2021. For the second day in a row, the Plant’s Blast Furnaces created new records in hot metal production. On the same day, the best ever daily Hot Metal Production of 17,071 Tonnes (T) was recorded, surpassing the previous best of 17,050 T produced a day earlier, i.e. on 9th Jan 21.

Total consumption of coal dust that is injected into the furnaces as fuel has also been the highest at 1843 Tonnes on the day. Blast Furnaces could achieve the new records with the support of all associated upstream and downstream shops and departments.

Steel Melting Shop No 3, a Modex unit of the Plant that produces crude steel from hot metal produced and supplies cast blooms to Universal Rail Mill and cast billets to Bar and Rod Mill and the older Merchant Mill and Wire Rod Mill has also created a new record of 50 heats produced on January 10, 2021, surpassing previous best of 48 heats.

SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant’s Rail and Structural Mill has set a new record for rolling of thick web asymmetric rail on January 11, 2021. The production in ‘A’ shift was 131 blooms, surpassing the previous record of 117 blooms on September 30, 2015.

Thick web asymmetric (TWA) rail profile is an import substitution product that will reinforce SAIL’s commitment towards ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat. Thick web asymmetric rail is a high NSR value added product of SAIL and setting new benchmarks in its production shall contribute to improve company’s profitability. Present on the occasion were senior officers of RSM and Plant’s RCL Dept.
