The Congress campaign to unite India against the BJP received a jolt in Kerala where the two anti-saffron parties locked horns over Rahul Gandhi’s stay in the state.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra of the Congress party led by its leader Rahul Gandhi started from Kanyakumari on September 7. The former Congress President would enter Kerala from Parassala close to the Tamil Nadu border and would travel 450 km to Nilambur in Malappuram over a 19-day period. The yatra would pass through 12 states and two union territories, covering a distance of 3,570 km from Kanyakumari to Jammu and Kashmir over a period of 150 days.

There would be mega rallies in 22 major cities. Rahul Gandhi has been elected from Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala. However, his schedule in the state had come under the attack of Kerala’s ruling party, the CPI(M); subsequently dividing the opposition unity at the onset of Bharat Jodo Yatra.

The CPI(M) quizzed the duration of Rahul Gandhi’s stay in Kerala and Uttar Pradesh during the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’. Taking a dig at Rahul, the CPI(M) pointed out his long stay in Kerala and only a few days in Uttar Pradesh where the BJP is in power. According to the schedule, Rahul Gandhi would be in the Left Democratic Front (LDF)-ruled Kerala till September 30.

Along with Rahul’s caricature, the CPI(M) had tweeted: “Bharat Jodo or seat jodo, 18 days in Kerala and 2 days in UP… strange ways to fight the BJP-RSS.”

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh responded and said, “Do your homework better on how and why yatra was planned the way it is. And silly criticism from a party that is the team of BJP in the land of MunduModi.”
