Bihar Police officer run over by sand mafia, jawan injured

Patna, November 14

Prabhat Ranjan, officer in charge of Garhi police station in Jamui district, 200 km west from here was killed on the spot, when a tractor loaded with sand ran over him at Chanrava river bridge in the wee hours of Tuesday.

District Magistrate of Jamui, Rakesh Kumar said Prabhat Ranjan who had joined Bihar police in 2018 had received reports about movement of tractors carrying sand from the river during the banned mining period, reached the bridge on tri junction of Jamui, Nawada and Giridih districts

While he was checking thd vehicles, driver of the tractor loaded  with unauthorised sand ran over the police officer who died on the spot.

A home guard jawan, Rajesh Kumar who was with the police officer was injured and admitted in the hospital.

Superintendent of Police Dr Surya Suman said tractor has been seized and Mithilesh Thakur of Kauakol in Nawada district has been arrested. He was on the tractor. Driver would also be arrested, SP said
