The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) suspended MLA Raja Singh hours after he was arrested by the Telangana police for his controversial remarks against the Prophet.

The party has also served a show-cause notice to Singh. The Ghoshamahal MLA has been asked to respond by September 2 explaining why he should not be expelled from the party.

Raja Singh reportedly made remarks in a video uploaded onto YouTube in a response to Munawar Faruqui’s stand-up comedy show which was held in Hyderabad, despite his threats. A complaint filed by one Mohammed Wajhi Uddin Salman with Dabeerpura Police alleged that BJP MLA used vulgar language against Prophet Mohammed.

People belonging to the community staged protests in various parts of the city on Monday night demanding his arrest. The Telangana police today apprehended him. However, the 14ACMM court on Tuesday ordered an immediate release of suspended BJP MLA T Raja Singh, hours after his arrest. The court returned the remand application for the suspended BJP MLA and ordered his immediate release.

Meanwhile, BJP suspended the MLA for failing to follow the party line. Raja Singh’s remarks came despite a warning from top BJP leadership not to make any controversial remarks against Muslims following the backlash that erupted from Nupur Sharma’s statement. In the national executive meeting held in Hyderabad, BJP’s National General Secretary BL Santosh had warned motormouth leaders of the party and had asked them not to make any controversial statements that are explicitly anti-Islam.
