Chhattisgarh to set up 1320 MW power plant

Chhattisgarh will set up a 1320 MW power plant which will be the maiden facility in terms of capacity to come up since the formation of the state.

The plant, which is proposed to come up in Korba, will have two units of 660 MW each. It would be powered with new aged super critical technology.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has given instructions to the officials to expedite the project during the review meeting of power companies at his residence today. Seeing the escalating demand of electricity in future, building up new power plants were inevitable to ensure smooth supply by 2030-31.

With the installation of the new plant, Chhattisgarh State Generation Company’s installed capacity would increase to 4300 MW.

N K Bijoura, Managing Director of the Chhattisgarh Power Generation Company, informed that the super critical plant would be set up with the state-of-the-art technology. Besides meeting the power demand, the plant would provide employment opportunities to the local people.

The officials said the land was available in Korba West, where the company had a power station. The available conveyor belt would facilitate the flow of dry fuel to the proposed plant.

The work for obtaining the necessary approvals, coal allocation, water allocation including preparing Detailed Project Report (DPR) would be taken by soon by the company. The Chief Minister had instructed the officials to expedite the project at the earliest so as to meet the surging power demand by 2030-31.

Due to the transportation of coal from the conveyor belt, availability of own land and being a super critical plant, the rate of electricity generated from the proposed plant is expected to be cheaper.
