Raipur, April 16

In view of the continues rising temperatures and intense heatwave conditions across Chhattisgarh, the state government has taken an important decision to advance the summer vacation in schools. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has announced that summer vacation will begin earlier than scheduled this year—starting from April 20 instead of May 1—and will continue until June 15.

Temperatures across most parts of the state have been increasing rapidly, with several districts recording highs between 42°C and 45°C, significantly affecting daily life. The extreme heat has been particularly challenging for children, as students commuting to schools are facing harsh sunlight, heatwaves, and humid conditions, leading to health concerns.

According to the Meteorological Department, temperatures are expected to rise further in the coming days. Keeping children’s safety and health as a priority, the government has taken this proactive step. The Education Department has supported the decision and issued immediate instructions to implement the vacation in all government and private schools across the state.

The Chief Minister stated that the health and safety of children remain the government’s top priority. He also pointed out that extreme heat adversely affects the learning environment, impacting students’ concentration and academic performance. Therefore, advancing the vacation is a necessary and sensitive measure.

Parents and teachers have welcomed the decision, noting that sending children to school in such extreme heat could have posed serious risks. Several private schools have also confirmed compliance with the government’s directive.

Typically, summer vacations are scheduled during May and June, but the unusually early onset of extreme heat this year has prompted the government to act ahead of time. Schools will now remain closed from April 20 to June 15, and the new academic session will resume on June 16.
