O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) in collaboration with Flag Foundation of India (FFI) set a new record for the largest human flag formation of the National Tricolour, surpassing all previous Guinness World Records.

A total of 7368 JGU students and staff participated in the event as confirmed by the officials of the Guinness World Records organization. It was indeed a proud moment as all the participants, including students, staff, faculty and other officials from all the schools and institutes of JGU gathered with full enthusiasm in the colors of the Indian flag to celebrate this unique occasion. Guinness World Records adjudicator Rishi Nath was present at the premises to certify the event.

He said, “It gives me great pleasure to announce that, O.P. Jindal Global University in collaboration with Flag Foundation of India has succeeded in creating the record of largest human flag formation with 7368 enthusiastic participants. This record now belongs to JGU and FFI, and I am happy that after their efforts this new record will be a part of the official Guinness Book of World Records.”

The historic event was organized by JGU in collaboration with Flag Foundation of India, a non-profit organization working towards rekindling the spirit of Indian nationalism. The Tricolor is a symbol of the modern democratic, secular and liberal values, and should be adopted by all Indians in their endeavor to build a strong and progressive India that will take its rightful place in the world. Founder Chancellor of Jindal Global University Naveen Jindal has been the inspiration behind the Flag Foundation. “I am proud of the Flag Foundation of India and O.P. Congratulations to Jindal Global University for creating a new Guinness World Record for the largest human image of the waving national flag,” he said.

The Honorable Supreme Court of India in its judgment on January 23, 2004 said that the Indian Constitution grants freedom of speech and expression to every Indian citizen and under this, hoisting the national flag is a fundamental right of every citizen of the country.

Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, Founder Vice-Chancellor, Jindal Global University, said, “This year we are celebrating the 15th anniversary of India’s premier private university. With over 11,000 students and over 1,100 faculty members across its schools and institutes, JGU has set new benchmarks in the field of higher education, providing an environment for our students to learn and enhance their knowledge at international standards. Creating a new Guinness World Record for the largest human hoisting of the national flag is a great achievement. The occasion truly coincides with our 15th anniversary, which shows that we remain steadfast in our commitment to excellence and innovation.

“This acknowledgment by Guinness World Records further strengthens our resolve to build a strong India through education. Naveen Jindal fought in court for a decade to enable all Indians to hoist our National Flag with honor and pride in their homes, offices and factories on all days of the year, and after winning it, a non- “Flag Foundation of India was established as a profit-making organization,” he added.

Major General (Retd) Ashim Kohli, Secretary General, Flag Foundation of India, said, “Continuing our efforts towards maintaining the glory of the Tricolour, we have organized this activity which aims to renew that sense of pride. We have to awaken from this and remove those layers of hesitation which prevent us from living life like a true nationalist. ‘Flag Foundation of India’ is an effort to rekindle that spirit of nationalism. We have also installed more than 80 extra giant flags across the country.”
