Jagdalpur, March 31

Insurgents of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) gutted four trucks ferrying iron ore from Aamdai mines in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district on Sunday morning.

The Aamdai iron ore mine in Chote Dongar area of Narayanpur district is owned by Jayaswal Neco Industries Limited. It was granted the lease for mining iron ore in about 192 hectares of reserve forest area in Aamdai Ghati (valley) – a hilly area full of ore deposits.

The pocket is Maoist-infested and the rebels have been opposing the mining in the area. Despite protest, Jayaswal Neco started mining in 2016. Since then, the Maoists have been committing incidents targeting the mines workers and machines to unleash a reign of terror.

On Sunday morning, the rebels intercepted four trucks transporting iron ore from the mines. They set all the four vehicles on fire. The incident took place barely 500-meter from the Chote Dongar police station.

The police officials said the vehicles were badly damaged.
