SAIL, Rourkela commissions advanced facilities at SMS-1 to enhance productivity

The innovative team of Steel Melting Shop-I (SMS-I) of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has successfully commissioned two ingenious facilities at the Continuous Casting Machine-1 (CCM-I) to boost productivity and enhance quality.

The collective has recently installed and commissioned a new Mould Oscillation Table (MOT) and an in-house developed Drive Simulation Test Bench for the MOT showcasing their technical acumen, expertise and pursuit for excellence.

The integration of the newly installed MOT, provided by M/S SMS India Pvt. Ltd, promises improved precision, control, and overall performance for CCM-I. This enhancement is set to optimize the quality of cast products while minimizing downtime.

The departmental team has engineered, installed, and activated a Drive Simulation Test Bench for the MOT using internal resources. The Structural & Fabrication Shop and Civil Engineering Services provided essential support in fabricating and installing the facility based on drawings and designs developed by CCM-I (Mechanical).

The design-to-commissioning process for these facilities was led by CCM-I (M & E) under the guidance of A.V.Pradeep, GM (Mechanical), S.N.Rout, AGM (Mechanical), T.P.Garewal, AGM (Electrical), J.K.Mohapatra, Senior Manager (Mechanical), Sundeep Kumar Lakra, Manager (Electrical) and Birabar Behera, Deputy Manager (Electrical) of SMS-1 department.

In a recent ceremony, the facilities were inaugurated by R K Patra, CGM In Charge (Steel), in the presence of Pinaki Choudhury, CGM (SMS-1), P K Sahoo, CGM (B.E.), Ravi Ranjan, CGM (Design & Shops), Section Heads, and other Senior Officers of the plant.
