Raipur Collector’s letter crusade for votes

The District Election Officer and Collector of Raipur, Dr Gaurav Kumar Singh has launched an aggressive campaign to propel people to walk to the polling booth and exercise their franchise when the constituency goes to the polls on May 7.

The move of 2013-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer is aimed to achieve the objective of 100 per cent voting in Lok Sabha elections-2024. Under the special campaign that was launched today, the volunteers will reach the doorstep of the voter to drop the Collector ki Paati (letter of Collector). The campaign will continue till May 5.

Dr Singh has penned the letter in a postcard that will be delivered to the voter with full honors. The courier will apply Tilak on the forehead of the recipient before handing over the card.

“Votes will be cast for Raipur Lok Sabha constituency on May 7. Every vote is important to strengthen democracy. Voting is not only your moral responsibility but also a national duty,” Dr Singh mentioned in the memo. He appealed to the common voters to come out in large numbers to the polling booths on May 7 to empower the nation. He said all those who are above 18 years of age and whose name is registered in the voter list should be encouraged to vote besides the family members and neighbours.   

A district administration spokesperson said over three thousand Anganwadi workers and assistants would go door-to-door and deliver the Paati with the cooperation of the Women and Child Development Department supervisors. The Department has been made the nodal of the campaign.

Dr Singh himself kicked off the campaign and visited a few houses to deliver the card. Later, he reached the residences of senior bureaucrats and prominent persons to execute the task.
