A tragic industrial accident occurred in the Sakti district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday afternoon when a boiler exploded at the Vedanta Power Plant in Singhitrai. Nine workers killed and over thirty others injured.
The explosion took place around 2:00 PM during routine operations at the plant, located under the jurisdiction of the Dabhra Police Station. According to preliminary reports, the blast was triggered by a tube failure within the boiler unit.
District Superintendent of Police (SP) Prafulla Thakur confirmed the fatalities and stated that rescue teams reached the site shortly after the alarm was raised.
Five workers were declared dead at the Jindal Fortis Hospital in Raigarh, where they were rushed in critical condition. Estimates suggest that nearly 40 laborers have sustained significant injuries, many of whom are in critical condition due to severe burns.
The district administration, along with police and fire department officials, has cordoned off the site. A technical team has been deployed to conduct a forensic analysis of the boiler to determine the exact cause of the rupture.
The incident has once again brought the safety protocols of industrial units in the region under intense scrutiny. Local residents and labor unions have voiced their outrage, demanding a high-level inquiry into the plant’s maintenance standards. They are calling for strict accountability to prevent such devastating accidents in the future.
While the situation is currently under control, the region remains in shock as families await further official updates on the condition of the injured.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has expressed deep sorrow over the accident caused by a boiler explosion. Describing the incident as extremely painful and heart-wrenching, he paid tribute to the deceased and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
The Chief Minister has directed that all necessary safety measures be reviewed to prevent recurrence of such incidents in the future and that strict compliance with safety standards be ensured in industrial units.
