SAIL-BSP shuts down Blast Furnace-7 for repairs

Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), an arm of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), has successfully carried out the blowing out activity of blast furnace 7 that started on Friday night.

During the blowing out, the raw material burden has been brought down below the tuyere level, which is a very critical activity and is quite an accomplishment as its very rare exercise. Salamander tapping was also opened successfully at 19:25 hrs on Saturday.

Blast furnace-7 has completed its campaign life 17.60 MT during the campaign. After this Blast furnace 7 will undergo CAT-1 capital repair. The category-1 repairs of the blast furnace indicate a complete revamp of the iron ore making unit for which it will be shut down for a specific period.

BSP, with a capacity of producing 7.5 million tonne hot metal, Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) is India’s largest producer & supplier of world class rails for Indian Railways including world’s longest 130 metre rails in single piece and 260 metre long rail welded panels, and a major producer of large variety of wide and heavy steel plates and structural steel.
