A serious security lapse surfaced during the second One-day International match played between India and New Zealand in Chhattisgarh capital today.

The match, which India won by eight wickets to clinch the three-match series by 2-0, was played at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Chhattisgarh’s capital city of Raipur on Saturday. A thick security cover was thrown open in and around the stadium as Chhattisgarh had been sensitive following Maoist insurgency in the state’s southern parts.

A boy jumped the barricades and entered the ground. He reached upto the pitch and hugged Rahul Sharma who was on the crease. The bouncers deployed in the inner circle of the stadium jumped and pulled him out. Showing his gesture, the skipper asked the bouncer not to harm the boy.

Earlier, India skipper Rohit Sharma opted to bowl first after winning the toss. India bowled out New Zealand for 108 in 34.3 overs in the second One-day International. Mohammed Shami (3/18) was the pick of the bowlers for India who took three wickets while Hardik Pandya (2/26) and Washington Sundar (2/7) accounted for two batters each.

In reply, skipper Rohit Sharma scored a dashing fifty to lead India to a comfortable win. India had won the series opener by 12 runs earlier this week.
